The Purpose of this Guide
Information about these guidance pages and how they can assist your text and data mining (TDM) project.
Introduction
The purpose of this guide is to support researchers and students in navigating the complexities of text and data mining (TDM). We aim to clarify the legal requirements for TDM in the UK, provide an overview of tools and resources that can be used for TDM and access routes, and outline support available from the University Library.
What is TDM?
Text and data mining (TDM) means using computational techniques to analyse large amounts of information to identify patterns, trends and other useful information
You are legally allowed to carry out text and data mining as part of a non-commercial research project, but you must have lawful access to the data that you intend to analyse. Lawful access may be via a Library subscription or by personally negotiated access. Please contact the Library before embarking on text and data mining on any Library subscribed content.
