Mark Hanna
A profile of Mark Hanna.
In his eighteen-year career as a news reporter specialising in crime reporting and investigations, Mark Hanna wrote for the Western Daily Press, the Sheffield Morning Telegraph, the Sheffield Star, and The Observer.
During this time, he won several awards including the British Press Awards’ Provincial Journalist of the Year.
Now a senior lecturer in the University’s Department of Journalism Studies, Mark Hanna is also co-author of McNae’s Essential Law for Journalists, the indispensable handbook for journalists in the field of media law and ethics.
Mark Hanna teaches media law to undergraduate and postgraduate students, covering UK law on freedom of expression, libel, privacy, copyright, contempt of court, restrictions on court coverage, anonymity for victims of sexual offences, and other legal issues.
His practice also covers media ethics and regulation, preparing students for careers in the journalism industry by helping them meet the requirements of the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), and the Broadcast Journalism Training Council.
