Welcome week and more
Find out more about Welcome Week and why it's important.

Welcome week (also known as 'intro week') is your mandatory first week of University. It runs from 23 - 27 September and is when you will meet your classmates and staff, see the facilities, find out more about clubs and societies, and familiarise yourself with your course. All students are expected to attend.
You'll find full details of your timetabled activities in your student handbook, which is available once you have registered as a student with us.
Get involved!
After welcome week, there are plenty of ways to get involved in the student community.
- Academic Representation: represent your coursemates' views on wide range of academic and student experience issues to staff.
- Student Ambassadors: Represent the Information School to prospective students via open days, content creation and more. Information will be provided once you have registered, and can be found on the Student Hub.
- Join a society: With over 300 societies and over 50 sports clubs there are hundreds of ways to make friends and build communities at the SU. From baking to badminton, coding to craft, or frisbee to filmmaking you can keep up your hobbies or try something completely new!
Social media
The Sheffield Journalism Network is a one-stop-shop for journalistic work placements, employment opportunities and more. It's open to all of our students, past and present, and it's a great way to connect with our successful alumni and make contacts.
Facebook groups
Living in student accommodation and want to find your flatmates? The University has set up Facebook groups to help you.
We also have a group for all offer holders - join if you want to find your coursemates, chat about your future uni life, or ask other offer-holders a question.
Orientation week - part of Sheffield's Global Campus
Orientation Week is a non-mandatory programme of information sessions, social events and activities designed to give international students little extra help to settle into life in Sheffield and the University, and to start making friends.
