Keeping your passwords safe
You must ensure you protect your password.
Don't
- share it with anyone (including IT Services)
- reuse it
- write it down or leave it somewhere unsafe, for example, sticky notes stuck to monitors or on visible whiteboards
- send it in an email or text
- reply to or click on any links in emails that ask you for your password
- let anyone watch you enter your password
- use your University password for any personal accounts such as online banking, social media, personal email, or e-commerce sites
- enable 'autocomplete' or 'Remember me' for usernames and passwords in your Web browser on shared devices, as someone else could log in to your account if they have access
Do
- use a different password for each of your University and personal accounts. In the event that someone is able to figure out one of your passwords, they won’t be able to access everything else
- consider getting a password manager
- change your password regularly so it meets the latest security standards
