Life as a student is really what you make of it!
I first heard about The University of Sheffield through my undergraduate university back in the US, when I was looking to study abroad. I then decided to come to Sheffield for a semester duing my Undergraduate degree. I wanted to get a second degree to improve my understanding and foundation in Landscape Architecture. I also wanted the experience of studying for a Masters, and to explore beyond just an undergraduate level of study. Studying abroad here was short but very beneficial to me as a student. It was only a semester, but I was able to take modules for credit that were within the requirements for what I needed to graduate from Illinois, it gave me a much wider perspective on the industry.
What I have enjoyed most so far about my course is that I have enjoyed the creative environment of being able to work in the Arts Tower studios. The department does their best to make sure everyone has enough room to work, and there is state of the art technology and software available for our use. I enjoy working with the staff and getting to know them a bit more on a personal level, they are so willing to help us on our academic endeavors.
Living here is great because you don’t need a car. You can walk to anywhere you need to go and can even visit the Peak District, which is our local national park!
Life as a student is really what you make of it and there are so many opportunities that the University offers like Give it a Go, life drawing at coffee revolution, ample study spaces. You won’t have any trouble finding your niche since there is something for everyone here. I participated in a Give it a Go trip to York and one to the Lake District. They’re great! We took a coach to each respective place and had a guide direct us anywhere we needed to go. It was a really easy way to explore more of the UK.
