Outside of contact hours, there are many extracurricular activities and student projects to choose from. Because of the Universities connections, there are also many opportunities for internships to gain experience in industry.

How did you first hear about your scholarship?

I first read about the scholarship in an email, after I had secured my choice to go to Sheffield.

How does it feel to have been awarded a scholarship?

It feels great to be awarded a scholarship because I feel like the hard work has finally paid off. Also, this scholarship makes sending me to university a lot easier for my family.

What made you choose to study at Sheffield and your course?

I think that the University of Sheffield provides an excellent opportunity for engineering students to gain both theoretical knowledge of the sciences as well as practical experience in engineering. Outside of contact hours, there are many extracurricular activities and student projects to choose from. Because of the Universities connections, there are also many opportunities for internships to gain experience in industry.

How did you research the University to find out about studying in Sheffield?

I attended the online open days where university staff explained the course structure to us, and how the university would help us with our studies. Also, students at the university gave us more insight into their experiences. After hearing some good reviews from the students, I decided to study at the University of Sheffield.

What are you enjoying about your first semester?

Since last year was almost entirely online, it’s nice to be able to go into the University, sit in lectures and participate in labs. Also, it’s great to meet other like-minded students with the same interests as me and to grow as engineers together.

How has (or will) the scholarship benefits your studies?

The scholarship has made it a lot easier for my family to send me to the UK to study. Since there is a yearly academic requirement, it also gives me motivation to work hard and keep on top of schoolwork.

What advice would you give to a student considering studying at the University of Sheffield?

I think that you should do plenty of research to make sure that the course you are considering at the University is right for you. Make sure that it covers things you’re interested in and that it will lead you to a career that you truly want to work in.

What do you hope to do in the future?

In the future, I hope to own my own aerospace company, developing more economically and environmentally sustainable aircraft. I also have a significant interest in the applications of nanotechnology in smart fabrics and smart fashion.
