Sheffield is one of the best decisions I ever made
I first heard about the University of Sheffield when I was researching top universities in the field that I was interested in, which is Biomedical Science. Sheffield was one of the top and I found that the University had a very good reputation in overall student satisfaction. Also the fact that it's Students’ Union is top in the UK made it a really attractive choice.
During my application process, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of support and guidance that was given, from help with general admin enquiries to more specialised enquiries such as visa matters! At the end, weighing up everything with Sheffield and the other universities that I applied to, I made the decision to come to Sheffield. This is definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made and after completing my BSc, I decided to stay further in Sheffield and pursue a PhD.
One of the best things about my current course is the Doctoral Development Programme which is a training plan for student researchers tailored to their needs. This ensures that we get high quality training in areas that we have a knowledge or skill gap in, or simply in areas that we have an interest in.
My biggest piece of advice would be to try as many things as possible on offer from the Students’ Union and the Give it a Go programme, it’s a great place to start. Moreover, joining societies and clubs significantly adds to one’s University experience. During my undergrad, I joined the Volunteering committee, which was a really fun and rewarding experience. There are numerous societies and sports that one can get involved with in the University and there is truly something for everyone!
