Disability Matters successfully hosted the first online knowledge exchange workshop on 26th March 2026.
As part of phase 7 Transforming EDI through Disability, the workshops aim to generate knowledge exchange that informs policy, strategy and practice of inclusive health research. Currently, disabled people’s knowledge of disability and health remain under-utilised and under-valued. The workshops aim to change this by centring disabled knowledge and inclusive knowledge production. The Knowledge Exchange workshops will offer a space for extended discussions with stakeholders about centring disability and disabled people in EDI and research. They will support participants in building capacity by sharing expertise from across organisations and foster connections across different organisations that can potentially lead to future partnerships and funding opportunities.
The first workshop Cripping Knowledge Exchange asked the question: How has your engagement with creative inclusive methods transformed your research and practice? The workshop featured invited speakers Dr Élaina Gauthier-Mamaril, Dr Daniel P Jones, and Khairani Barokka, who shared their work on using inclusive methods and creative practices such as podcasting, performance, and film. The workshop brought together postgraduate researchers, academics, knowledge exchange professionals, creative practitioners, and delegates from disability people’s organisations.
Some of the questions discussed were:
- How can creative methods make knowledge exchange more accessible to disabled people?
- What are the barriers to using inclusive creative methods in research and knowledge exchange?
- How do we create a system that supports inclusive knowledge exchange and crip creativity?
