Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?
I decided my university choice through adjustment. I attended a clearing open day.
Has your experience so far been what you expected?
More than what I expected. University at Sheffield has not only taught me valuable life skills but also the value of meeting new people and making connections as well as excelling in a subject I’m passionate about.
What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?
I enjoy how transferable the skills are within the History department. The core modules, especially in second year, have been valuable in my optional modules such as the Appeasement document module.
What modules are you studying this year? Are there any modules that you have particularly enjoyed during your degree so far and why?
I have studied Appeasement, Nazi Germany, Early Medieval Britain and 17th century Trade in the British empire. I have enjoyed all these modules because they have given me such a breadth of especially English History and taken me out of my comfort zone.
If you’ve undertaken any extra-curricular activities, what do you feel these have added to your time here?
I am a part of History Netball, which has really helped me interact with members of the history society and immerse myself in a sport I love while meeting new people.
What do you like about the University/living in Sheffield?
I like how close we are to the Peak District. Coming from a small rural town this really helped me settle into City life. From my first year accommodation window I could see the hills which really made me feel at home. The walks in the Peaks is so refreshing and really calms me down during exam periods and assessment windows.
Would you recommend studying at Sheffield to a friend?
Definitely! I already have! Its perfect for someone who wants to move out of home but not move to a busy city. Everyone is so nice and welcoming and it feels really safe as a woman.
