Profile
Tony works on politically constrained ethical questions concerning outer space, dissent, and religiously inflected understandings of technology and virtue. (With a particular interest in the Soto Zen tradition of Buddhism.) He writes in a broadly analytic style, but with influences from the Kyoto school and the phenomenological tradition. The political constraining of his work involves thinking about ethics in ways which require consistency with functioning but imperfect liberal democratic systems. He has previously held positions with the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at King’s College London, and within the Philosophy Departments at Hertfordshire, Hull, Aberdeen, and the University of Pardubice.
