Profile

Rae’s work focuses on Feminist philosophy and ideas surrounding whether or not we can consent to violent acts during sex. This includes assessing radical Feminist literature surrounding BDMS, ‘simulation’ and what kinds of things we can consent to. Her interest is in the cultural changes towards sex, with a focus on the increase of violent acts within mainstream pornography, and what younger generations now consider ‘vanilla’. She demonstrates a need for clarification on whether violent acts during sex can be morally permissible, as well as where the lines are drawn with regards to the extent of the violence of such acts, and what – if anything - distinguishes these types of acts from genuine impermissible violence.
