I work at the intersection of philosophy of mind, philosophy of cognitive science, and social philosophy. Most of my current work is centered on memory, social norms, and their complex interaction with other cognitive and emotional processes, such as attention, perception, imagination, and emotion regulation. At present, I am working on three research lines:
Forgetting and memory errors
What are the mechanisms and elements that underpin these memory processes? How do social elements, such as social norms, implicit biases, and stereotypes, influence these processes? Are these processes always bad for us and for our society? How can we improve our own and other people's memory to mitigate the negative consequences of forgetting and other memory errors?
Episodic memory and its functions
What are the functions of episodic memory? Why does episodic memory have these functions? What can forgetting and memory errors tell us about the role that episodic memory plays in our individual, social, and collective lives?
Memory and emotions
Can the emotions we feel in remembering help us acquire knowledge of our personal past and of ourselves? If yes, how? What can the epistemic roles of emotions tell us about the workings and functions of memory? What are the roles that the emotions we feel in remembering play in moral processes, such as forgiving?
