Profile

Onyx began her undergraduate studies here at Sheffield with a degree in Philosophy, Religion and Ethics. She completed her undergraduate dissertation on the consequences of asexual exclusion from second wave liberal and radical feminist perspectives of sex for modern feminism. Remaining at Sheffield for an MA in Philosophy, her interest in asexual progressed with the completion of an essay which used asexual theory to analyse critiques of the eroticisation of BDSM. Her PhD work focuses on bringing asexual theory into dialogue with philosophy of sex by asking what epistemologies are informing discussions around sexual orientation and what is missing from these conversations. Her method is to establish an asexual epistemology to assess the knowledge gap between asexual theory and philosophy of sex.
