IGSD Director Prof Dorothea Kleine gave a lecture at the University of Münster as part of her Mercator Fellowship from the German National Research Foundation (DFG).
In the lecture she demonstrated the value of a people-centred approach to digital transformation within environmental limits. She argued that current dominant imaginaries of digital transformation may not be in the public interest and demonstrated the need for democratic deliberation on digital transformation. is a prominent operationalisation of the capabilities approach to human development and she discussed how it can be applied in different disciplines, including development studies, geography, planning, information systems, computer science, economics, sustainability studies, political science, behavioural sciences, education, sociology and communications.
Dorothea is invited as a senior advisor to the interdisciplinary DFG project Future Digital Towns coordinated at the University of Münster, with partners at Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Universität Speyer, TU München and ZEW Mannheim.
