Lewis' Success Story

“As a care leaver, I don’t have the parental support that others have. The summer holidays can be especially difficult - most students move home and don't have to pay for anything but as a care leaver, I don't have that option.
By not having to work 40 hours a week, my bursary allowed me to focus fully on my course, and ultimately led to me graduating with a first-class degree. I also had extra time to do more enjoyable part-time work, like becoming a student ambassador. By talking to children in schools about the opportunities university can give them, I’ve felt like I’m giving something back.
If I get to a point in my life where I’m able to do so financially, then I would definitely consider helping a student like you’ve done – I think it’d be a great full-circle moment.
Financial help for students is extremely important and it’s really nice to know that there are people like you who want to help students at Sheffield.”
