What are your main responsibilities?

My PhD!

How has your degree from the School of English and your time at the University of Sheffield helped you in your career?

It has helped me to progress onto a PhD, which I received full funding for from WRoCAH. I come from a disadvantaged background in an area where progression to university is low. This has allowed me the opportunity to realise my full potential.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

Gaining a first class degree at BA and MA level and winning several awards, such as the Moore Smith English Prize for best performance in the whole of the School of English, the Colin Storks Linguistics Prize for best performance in ELL, the Cheryl Mahmoud Prize for best performance in sociolinguistics, and 2x Global Undergraduate Awards (Regional Winner for Europe in both Linguistics and Education).

What career advice would you give to a student interested in studying English?

Take advantage of all of the opportunities available to you through the School of English, especially the chance to tailor your degree by choosing your own modules.
