Discover more about the sessions you will take part in.

Taught by experts

The University of Sheffield has one of the largest and most research-intensive faculties of engineering in the UK, and has an enviable reputation for engineering education. You will be taught by academic experts, many of whom are senior professors.

Outstanding facilities

You will gain practical experience through hands-on activities in our Diamond building. Built at a cost of £81 million, the Diamond is a world-class centre for engineering education with outstanding facilities for practical learning.

Tackle a challenge

An Energy Engineering Challenge is integrated into the program, in which you will work in a team to tackle the energy crisis for a small town. Through the challenge you’ll gain skills that employers value: working in a diverse group, effective communication and problem solving.

Field trips

Two field trips are included in the programme, during which you will learn about Sheffield’s industrial history and sustainable power generation in the world-famous Drax power station.

Excursions and social events

At the weekend you will have an opportunity to visit Chatsworth (a stunning stately home) and Bakewell (one of the prettiest towns in the Peak District National Park). Social events include a welcome breakfast and farewell meal.

Accommodation and meals

Accommodation is provided in Allen Court, one of our most popular student residences. This is located just minutes from the Diamond and the central campus. It offers modern en-suite bedrooms and excellent facilities, including a 24-hour common room, games room, and movie room. There’s also an on-site gym open from early morning until late at night, and a dedicated customer services team available to help with any queries.

On campus, you’ll find a variety of cafes, dining facilities, and a supermarket in the Students’ Union offering a wide selection of food and drink. Thanks to our central location, you’ll also have easy access to a range of restaurants just minutes away. Sheffield boasts a thriving food scene, where the revival of post-industrial spaces and passionate local chefs have created a distinctive mix of independent venues, cosy cafés, and food halls. As part of the programme, you’ll also be welcomed with a breakfast on your first day and finish your time in Sheffield with a farewell dinner.
