We are pleased to announce the appointment of Energy Institute members, Professor Soloman Brown and Professor Darren Robinson as co-Directors for the Institute.
Solomon Brown, a Professor of Process and Energy Systems, joined the University of Sheffield as a Lecturer in December 2015. Prior to joining the University, Solomon took up a research associate followed by a Teaching Fellowship at UCL, during which he participated in a number of projects sponsored by the EC, EPSRC, UKCCSRC and Industry.
His research focuses on mathematical modelling, process analysis and optimisation with a particular focus on clean energy processes, energy storage and energy systems.
Professor Darren Robinson is a Chair in Architectural and Urban Sciences, and much of his research is conducted at the interface between social physics (people), building physics (buildings) and urban physics (city): people – buildings – city.
Some of Darren’s main research interests include; Statistical modelling of people’s presence, activities, comfort and behaviours; Solar radiation and daylight modelling in the urban context; Urban energy simulation, in particular of buildings’ performance and the integration of buildings with smart heat and power grids; Multiscale (urban, national, continental, global) integrated assessment modelling to support climate change policy. In 2019-20, he was Chair of the Science and Technology of Construction and the Built Environment Projects Panel: Research Flanders Foundation (FWO).
Commenting on the appointment, Darren said,
“Sheffield is a hub of expertise and talent for energy and decarbonisation research. I’m really excited to help foster a vibrant community through the Energy Institute, supporting both individuals and teams in achieving their aspirations, and positioning us as a global leader”.
