ELTC student social programme
Our social programme gives you a chance to do activities outside of your studies. It gives you more opportunities to practise your English and communication skills in an informal and relaxed way.
Our social programme includes weekly activities such as sport, conversation clubs and art groups, but may change due to student and staff interests. Some activities may be online, but most are face-to-face. You will be led by a staff member and use the facilities around the University.
Our ELTC social programme is available to all students on our University English and Pre-Sessional English courses. During Term 4 (Summer), we offer optional weekend day trips to nearby cities such as Manchester, York, Lincoln, Leeds and Liverpool. A small charge applies to cover coach travel only: £15 for destinations up to around 1.5 hours’ drive, and £20 for destinations over 2 hours away. This is much cheaper and more convenient than public transport, with direct travel and no intermediate stops. Any optional attraction entrance fees are not included and will be clearly communicated in advance.
Many regular activities offered through the social programme are free of charge to current ELTC students, but some activities may have a small cost of a few pounds to cover entry fees, equipment hire or food and drink.
University English (UE) students also have educational visits and trips to places around Sheffield and further away. Locations can include museums, art galleries, historical buildings and places of natural beauty and scientific interest.
All ELTC students can also have full access to a range of activities offered at the main University and we encourage you to take part. These include over 350 clubs and societies at our Students' Union, and sporting facilities offered through University of Sheffield Sport and Physical Activity.
