Update: June 2026
The next phase of work will involve scaffolding being installed to the Western Bank West Turret roof, within the north-west corner of Firth Court Quad. This scaffolding is expected to be installed from mid-June 2026 and remain in place for approximately 20 weeks.
This phase of work was delayed after a duck nested in the Quad. To avoid disturbing the duck, we waited until the ducklings were old enough to move on safely before restarting scaffolding works.
June 2025
During routine inspections we identified that the concrete turret roofs on Firth Court are in need of replacement. We are carrying out work to remove and replace the roofs and waterproof membranes, as well as other related works, to ensure the continued safety and preservation of one of our most important heritage buildings for future generations. This work began in June 2025 and includes:
- Replacing damaged concrete roof decks and roof membranes
- Repairing internal concrete steps
- Replacing selected windows
- Repairs to any other related stone or brickwork, as required
Firth Court and the Quad will remain open and operational throughout the works. Every effort will be made to ensure the scaffolding is as discreet as possible.
