Top results for electronic and electrical engineering at the University of Sheffield in this year's National Student Survey

2023 National Student Survey results rank the the University of Sheffield in the Russell Group top ten for electronic and electrical engineering across all categories, and in the top three for three categories

The National Student Survey results for 2023 have recently been released, and demonstrate very positive results for the subject electronic and electrical engineering at the University of Sheffield, building on previous successes within the 2022 results

Amongst other universities offering electronic and electric engineering, the University of Sheffield has been ranked for this subject in the top three within the Russell Group for three different categories: 

  • Learning Opportunities
  • Learning Resources
  • Student Voice

The University is also ranked in the top ten in the Russell Group for all other categories:

  • Teaching on my course
  • Assessment and feedback
  • Academic support
  • Organisation and management

For the final category, Student Voice, we are also pleased to note that students studying in the area of electronic and electrical engineering ranked the University of Sheffield within the top five across all universities in the UK. This category included questions such as 'How clear is it that students' feedback on the course is acted on?', for which electronic and electrical engineering teaching at Sheffield was ranked first in the Russell Group, and 'To what extent do you get the right opportunities to give feedback on your course?'.

I am really glad and proud that electronic and electrical engineering has been ranked in the top ten within the Russell Group for all categories, and in the top three for three. I am sure that all my staff within the department, who have contributed to the stimulating learning experience and environment, will share my joy. The top five ranking across all universities for Student Voice, shows that  students value the opportunities to provide feedback on their experience. They have clearly recognised that we have listened to their feedback, which helped us to continuously improve our delivery of learning and teaching activities.

The positive results for the electronic and electrical engineering subject area at Sheffield come as the University of Sheffield as a wider institution has received responses to the survey that rank it top overall within the Russell Group in the 2023 National Student Survey (NSS). In the comprehensive survey, which gathered feedback from over 335,000 final-year students throughout the UK, Sheffield emerged as the leading institution among the UK's 24 prestigious, research-intensive universities. This distinction is based on the aggregated responses from students, with the University of Sheffield earning the highest positive ratings in response to 27 questions addressing various aspects of the academic experience, resources, support, and their mental well-being. Of these questions, students studying in the area of electronic and electrical engineering at the University of Sheffield ranked the university best in the Russell Group in response to several questions, including 'How often do teaching staff make the subject engaging?', and 'How easy is it to access subject specific resources (e.g. equipment, facilities, software) when you need them?'.

The University of Sheffield's performance in the survey also positioned it within the top three universities in the Russell Group for learning opportunities, student voice, and mental health, while it secured a spot in the top five for learning resources, academic support, and organisational management.
