Economics offer holder days
As part of your offer holder day at Sheffield, you'll be spending some quality time getting to know the School of Economics and your chosen course.
Arriving at the school
You will have booked to visit the school at 10am to 12.30pm or 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. We will also be running other events across campus, such as accommodation tours, so make sure check timings to plan around the school visit.
Please arrive in good time for the start of your booked session, as we'll need to scan the QR code from your booking to register you.
Your arrival location is: Lecture Theatre 3, the Wave. You can view this on our interactive campus map, and there will also be lots of open day staff and ambassadors around campus to assist you.
If you arrive late for your booked session, please report to the general information stand on the Students’ Union concourse, where event staff will be able to help.
When booking, you'll be able to reserve a place for yourself and one guest at the school activities. To ensure safe venue capacities, the school will be unable to accommodate any additional unbooked visitors.
However, you're welcome to bring additional guests to accompany you on the day, and we would encourage these guests to take part in our range of central exhibitions and tours while the school activities are running.
Economics offer holder timetable
You will have booked to visit the school from 10am to 12.30pm or 2pm to 4.30pm on your offer holder day. Here's what to expect from your time with us. Timings are approximate and are subject to change, and so we recommend checking back prior to the event.
Arrival and registration (30 minutes)
Arrive at the Wave for registration. Most of the activities will be based around Lecture Theatre 3 where you can help yourself to tea and coffee and meet our students and staff before the activities begin.
Welcome and Course Talk (45 minutes)
Now that you hold an offer for one of our Economics courses, academic staff and student ambassadors (some of our current students) will dig deeper into the course, covering key information such as modules, contact hours, teaching and assessment methods, projects, trips, and career support. There will also be time at the end of the talk to ask any burning questions you have during a dedicated Q&A.
Meet the School (20 minutes)
Grab some refreshments and get to know our academic staff, current students, and your potential future coursemates! If you have any further questions after the welcome talk, you can also ask them here.
Exploring Economics (1hour)
Experience first-hand what it’s like to be an Economics student at the University of Sheffield by participating in 2 x activities. In one of them, you could be exploring topics such as bubbles and crashes, income and well-being, footballer salaries, game theory; in the other, you’ll have the chance to dive deeper into what it’s like studying Economics here at Sheffield.
In Conversation with Student Ambassadors (20 minutes)
To help you find the answers to those final questions you might have, you will get to spend a bit of time with our student ambassadors away from parents/supporters and academic staff. Our student ambassadors will also share some more of their personal experiences of their time at Sheffield so far, from both in and out of the classroom!
During this time, there will also be a separate dedicated session for parents and supporters to attend, where they can ask academic staff any questions they still have and chat to other parents/supporters.
For the rest of the day, you'll have time to take part in the central tours and exhibitions detailed in our offer holder day guide.
