During October's Off the Shelf Festival of Words, Professor Sarah Brown conducted an interview with Rachel Reeves as part of an anthology celebrating influential women in economic history. The Member of Parliament and Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves drew on personal experiences and related these to the impactful work of both past and present unheralded women. From historical theorists like Harriet Martineau to contemporary policy makers such as Gita Gopinath, Rachel Reeves shared how their contributions have shaped her perspective. She outlined a progressive economic vision for the future, advocating for sustainable and inclusive growth, offering opportunities for all rather than a privileged few.

Sarah Brown, the Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Sheffield, and current President of the Scottish Economic Society and former Low Pay Commissioner, conducted this inspiring interview.

Notably, Off the Shelf Festival of Words is one of the largest literary festivals in Northern England, bringing the best in local, national and international literary talent to Sheffield.
