  • In this blog post Cripping Breath Theatre Collaborator, Stephanie Castelete, introduces a short film about disability and queer love.
  • The film was part of this year’s Easterseals Disability Film Challenge - an opportunity for disabled and non-disabled filmmakers to tell unique stories that showcase disability in its many forms.
  • In the post Stephanie outlines the main themes explored in the film.

We're delighted to share a short film, Interruptions, which was executive produced, written, edited and performed by Stephanie Castelete-Tyrrell, with design consultation from Kate Mellor. Both Stephanie and Kate are Theatre Collaborators on Cripping Breath. We're so lucky to work with such brilliant creatives!

Stephanie has written the following about the film:

Interruptions is a short dramedy film with disability and queer love at the heart of its story. Olive and Alice, incredibly in love, want nothing more than to simply spend the evening together, but events related to the world of disability get in the way.

Interruptions highlights the importance of:

  • Appropriate care
  • Accessibility
  • Boundaries
  • Listening
  • Choice
  • Respect
  • Autonomy
  • Privacy

These things might seem like a given, but they can feel like a luxury for some disabled people. We wanted our film to be a vessel in raising awareness of the issues that are still present in society today, to help better people’s understanding and hopefully create change.

Please enjoy the film and share with others!
