Description

The Confucius Institute at the University of Sheffield, in collaboration with visiting scholars from Nanjing University, presents China Elegant, a three-day exploration of traditional Chinese arts. This suite of events offers a rare opportunity to engage with masters of Kunqu opera, Chinese calligraphy, and Yixing Zisha pottery, each representing a rich artistic heritage.

Each event is designed to be immersive and interactive, allowing participants to experience these traditions firsthand. From the poetic storytelling of Kunqu opera to the meditative practice of calligraphy and the craftsmanship behind Yixing teapots, attendees will gain deeper insight into these ancient art forms.

Description:

Yixing Zisha (Purple Clay) pottery is a rare and refined art form unique to Jiangsu Province. This event will include a live demonstration by Ministry of Education-recognized heritage experts, showcasing the craftsmanship of handmade teapots and allowing attendees to experience the process firsthand.

Kunqu Opera: The oldest and most avant-garde theatre

Description:

Kunqu Opera is one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera, known for its poetic lyrics, elaborate costumes, and stylized movements. The performance will feature a live theatre-style showcase with guided appreciation, explaining the significance of each scene and the artistic nuances of Kunqu.
