What attracted you to your MSc course?

I had explored several MSc courses from Canada, the USA, Norway and the UK and I landed upon The University of Sheffield. The course at the university attracted me due to its practical nature and affiliation with industry and came highly recommended from past alumni. Coming from an industrial background, it resonated well with me.

Do you think the department set you up with helpful employability skills?

Initially during my time at The University of Sheffield I did reach out to the Employability Team for assistance in bridging any gaps I may have had, given that I was an international student, and they helped me polish my CV. The Employability and Careers Team at The University of Sheffield is a golden opportunity for any student, regardless of experience, to get genuinely great advice and guidance as they seek to integrate into the world of work.

Is there anything you thought was particularly good about the PGT programme at Sheffield?

The PGT programme was great and very unique from a practical industry perspective. For example, I loved how the functional safety module was literally hosted by a consultancy firm! It showcased that not only would we learn the fundamentals of process safety but it would also be industrially relevant.

Is there any advice you would give to prospective MSc students?

Your time at university is short, so make the most of all the resources that are available to you. It will assist you as you either transition for the first time into industry or return to industry after studies.

What did you think of Sheffield as a city?

Sheffield was a fantastic place to live! I  moved from the Caribbean during the pandemic and while it could have been quite lonely, there were lots of green spaces in and around the city which made the lockdowns less depressing.
