- Profile
-
With an broad background in Metallurgy and Materials Science Stuart gained a BSc (Hons) Metallurgy and Microstructural Engineering in 1990 studying part time whilst working at Sheffield Hallam University (Polytechnic). In 1990 he joined the Materials Research Institute delivering analytical solutions to both industrial and research-based clients applying advanced characterisation techniques such as electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. In 2006 Stuart was awarded an MPhil from Sheffield Hallam University for the ‘Analytical Studies of Corrosion and Wear Resistant CrN/NbN Superlattice PVD Coatings’.
He joined the Sorby Centre for Electron Microscopy at the University of Sheffield in 2022 as an Experimental Officer in Electron Microscopy specialising in the application of Electron Probe Microanalysis (EPMA). Since joining the facility Stuart has drawn on his wealth of experience of working with both academic and industrial stakeholders to apply advanced electron microscopy to a range of projects involving for example alloy development, earth sciences, ceramics and materials for the nuclear industry.
