- Profile
-
I am a teaching specialist whose work is focussed upon biomaterials, bioengineering and teaching technical and professional skills to engineers. I built my scientific expertise through years of technical work in research labs, followed by studying for a PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and then as a postdoctoral researcher during which I investigated drug resistance mechanisms in cancer.
I was a member of the team who set up the labs and teaching in the University of Sheffield Diamond Engineering (https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/engineering/diamond-engineering) where I held taught students and held a technical management role. This led me to transition into an academic teaching role in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. I have an MEd qualification in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and am an FHEA.
I predominately teach biomedical engineers and materials scientists from level one undergraduate to postgraduate, and supervise final year project students. I have held a range of significant departmental roles including Director of Student Experience and Director of PGT courses. I retain a small but active role in research into 3D cell culture models through PhD supervision.
