NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression LTC & MUS Short Courses

NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression Long Term Conditions (LTC) and Medically Unexplained Symptoms (MUS) for High Intensity/ Cognitive Behavioural Therapists (HIT or CBT) & Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWP) - short course

Off

These courses have been commissioned by NHS England to provide NHS Talking Therapies staff with the skills and competencies to work with patients with anxiety and depression in the context of their LTC or MUS.

Two focused, bespoke training courses have been developed using national curricula aimed at developing assessment and intervention skills for PWPs and CBT therapists.  Designed as a broad based introduction to the skills of working with patients with LTC/MUS, the course involves 6 full teaching days for PWPs and 11 full days teaching for the CBT therapists.

Participants will leave with a certificate of academic achievement, where attained.  There is an expectation that all teaching sessions are attended and this may require client sessions being re-scheduled.

Staff suitability

The CBT training curriculum assumes that the therapists attending will be BABCP accredited.  The PWP training is for qualified PWPs with at least one year of post-qualification experience.

Topics covered will include:

LTC/MUS presentations, Biopsychosocial assessment skills. Formulation skills in an LTC/MUS context, Disorder specific treatment protocols, Treatment adaptations, Group work and psychoeducation, Promoting cognitive and behaviour change and self-management, Working within and across organisations

Digital facilitation

The teaching will be taking place virtually; details of the digital platform, how to register and how to access this will be sent to participants once places are confirmed and their details have been received. The teaching will be a mixture of live teaching and pre-recorded sessions. Each day will be split into one recorded and one live session.

Participants will need to have access to a computer with a camera and mic in order to participate in the live sessions. We also advise early registration to allow us to check for any technical problems which may arise from service-based firewall or software compatibility issues.
