- Research interests

My background is in the characterisation and quantification of proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry, with a diverse range of projects including the proteomic analysis of pathogenic bacteria and the development of quantitative assays for human tumour markers.
Since joining the University in 2010, I have worked in the research groups of Professors Neil Hunter FRS and Mark Dickman (Chemical and Biological Engineering) and more recently with Prof. Matt Johnson and Dr Andy Hitchcock. Outside Sheffield, I work on collaborative projects with Prof. Josef Komenda, Dr Roman Sobotka, and Dr Vendula Krynická (Institute of Microbiology, The Czech Academy of Sciences, Třeboň, Czech Republic).
My input into our photosynthesis-based research programmes, involving purple bacterial, cyanobacterial, and eukaryotic model organisms, is focused on the following themes:- Proteomic analysis of complexes involved in solar energy capture and electron transport to support structure determination by cryo-EM.
- Quantitative proteomics of photosynthetic membranes in conjunction with targeted mutations to investigate adaptive mechanisms.
- Analysis of protein-protein interactions within photosynthetic energy transducing complexes by affinity tagging and covalent crosslinking.
