- Clinical Leadership & Education in Ophthalmology

This module will enable students to develop as advanced clinical practitioners in Ophthalmology in delivering high-quality, compassionate and efficient care to patients.
- Concomitance and Incomitance in Depth

This module will enable students to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of concomitant and incomitant strabismus with reference to clinical practice and recent literature.
- Eye to Vision

This module will enable students to develop an understanding of the neuro-physiological processes involved in visual function.
- Exemptions

This module will facilitate advanced practice in the area of prescription-only and non-prescription exemption-listed medicines for orthoptists.
- Insight into Disease

This module will enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms by which particular diseases affect ocular motility and visual function.
- Low Vision

This module will enable Orthoptists to become competent low-vision practitioners via a multidisciplinary and holistic approach.
- Research Methods

This module will give students a broad understanding of research methods, the ethics of research practice and of the use of statistics in testing a simple hypothesis in the subject area of vision and strabismus.
- Stroke

This module aims to enhance knowledge of strokes and enable practitioners working in the field of eye-care to have a comprehensive understanding of issues surrounding them in relation to their clinical practice.
We also offer a number of CPD modules covering clinical skills for a wide variety healthcare professionals.

Tuition fees
The fee for each 30 credit CPD module in Ophthalmology and Orthoptics is as follows:
- 2024/25 – home and overseas students – £1,706.50
Funding your studies
There is NHS funding available to support the continuing professional development of healthcare professionals. We also accept sponsored and self-funding students.

PGCert, PGDip and MMedSci qualifications
The following CPD modules are also part of our MMedSci Vision and Strabismus programme:
- Concomitance and Incomitance in Depth
- Eye to Vision
- Exemptions
- Insight into Disease
- Low Vision
- Research Methods
- Stroke
Previous students have completed more than one of these modules and combined their credits to achieve a PGCert or PGDip qualification in Vision and Strabismus.
Alternatively, you can apply directly for the three-year MMedSci Vision and Strabismus programme.
Clinical Leadership and Education can be taken as a standalone CPD module or as part of the MMedSci Ophthalmology Advanced Clinical Practice (Paediatrics) programme. However, it can’t be combined with credits from another module to achieve a PGCert or PGDip qualification.
