What made you want to study the MMedSci Vision and Strabismus at Sheffield?

“After completing my undergraduate programme in Australia, I began working as an orthoptist in Singapore. As I gained clinical experience, I realised I wanted to expand my knowledge in orthoptics and its related fields. This led me to search for relevant programmes online, where I came across the MMedSci programme in Vision and Strabismus. The programme's comprehensive curriculum and the fact that it was a distance learning, part-time option were the key factors that attracted me to it.”

What have you enjoyed most about the course?

“I found the depth and rigorousness of the curriculum to be both challenging and fulfilling.

“The unwavering support I received from the lecturers and tutors throughout the programme was also deeply appreciated. Additionally, being able to visit Sheffield in person after a long time was an exciting and memorable experience.”

How has the course impacted your job as an Orthoptist?

“The programme has significantly enhanced my clinical reasoning and research skills. These acquired skills have translated into improved clinical efficiency and the ability to adapt evidence-based practices in my work as an orthoptist.

I’m currently working on creating an advanced orthoptic practice in neuro-ophthalmology and a post-stroke visual rehabilitation service in my workplace, referencing the current UK model for such services. This would not have been possible without the exposure and learning from the MMedSci programme.

How did you find studying by distance learning?

“Studying by distance learning was an excellent fit for my circumstances as an overseas student. The programme was thoughtfully designed to cater to adult learners who work full time, and the online availability of study resources and learning materials allowed me to access them at my convenience, from anywhere.”

Do you have any tips or advice for anyone thinking about taking the course?

“I highly recommend the MMedSci Vision and Strabismus programme. As it involves mostly self-directed learning, effective time management is crucial to balance completing assignments and projects alongside your full-time work commitments and studies.

“The programme offers a flexible yet in-depth learning experience, delivered by a reputable institution with strong administrative and academic support. I am confident that you will have a rewarding experience studying in this programme.”
