Xinyu Master’s degree is in Cultural Heritage Management from the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sheffield and Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural and Forestry Economics & Management from Beijing Forestry University.
Her research interests lie in urban regeneration, critical heritage studies, and urban governance. My PhD research in the Urban Institute, titled Heritage as Future-Making: Governance, Participation and Redevelopment in Chinese Historic Urban Quarters, explores how heritage is understood, interpreted and mobilised by different actors in shaping urban futures. Drawing on a comparative study of two historic urban quarters in Anshun and Zhongshan, China, I examine how different heritage values and urban development agendas influence regeneration strategies, governance arrangements and opportunities for citizen participation.
