UI 10th JustGESI Project Launch

To celebrate the UI's 10 year anniversary we have organised an in-person UK launch of the JustGESI: Mainstreaming Gender Equality and Social Inclusion for a Just Energy Transition in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania project.

This event will introduce the JustGESI initiative, which addresses the persistent gender and social inclusion gaps in Africa’s energy transition. Despite significant advances in sustainable energy, empirical evidence highlights ongoing inequities in participation, representation, and benefit-sharing—particularly for women, gender non-conforming people, and other marginalized groups. JustGESI seeks to respond to these challenges through a focus on institutional and policy reforms, the integration of gender and inclusion objectives in concrete energy projects, and the development of transformative capacity-building strategies.

The launch will bring together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to reflect on the theoretical, methodological, and practical implications of centering gender equality and social inclusion within energy transitions.
