Nursing: The Kidneys - Why they're so great

This session will explore the human kidneys, how to look after them and some basic information on the challenges patients face when their kidneys have failed. With an interactive task, you'll learn content from the Nursing (Adult) degree and hear from current Nursing students too.

This Adult Nursing session will briefly explore the human kidneys, how to look after them and some basic information on the challenges patients face when their kidneys have failed.
The session will involve taught content from the Nursing (Adult) degree, an interactive task and a chance to ask questions and chat with the Nursing programme lead and current students!
By the end of this interactive taster session, you will be able to:
- Describe the basic anatomy of the urinary system and the kidneys
- State the function of the kidneys - Identify main causes of damage to the kidneys
- Describe what chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end stage kidney disease (ESKD) are
- Describe at a basic level, the dietary and fluid restrictions that may be necessary to manage kidney disease.

In this detailed Orthoptics taster session, you'll learn what the role of an Orthoptist in eye care entails and what studying the programme at the University of Sheffield is like.
We'll explore how the eyes work together and why, sometimes, they don't and why this might happen.
You'll hear from current Orthoptics students and staff and have the chance to ask any question you have.

In this exciting taster session, you’ll be introduced to clinical voice disorders. Using your voice everyday is something we all take for granted, but imagine not being able to talk with friends, use the telephone or be able to do your job.
We’ll take a deep-dive into how we all produce voice, what can cause voice difficulties, as well as how speech and language therapy can help.
There will be interactive quizzes and the chance to have a go at analysing voices. You'll also learn about the programme and the University of Sheffield and hear from current students.
