The theme this year looked at 'Surfaces and Interfaces - Mysteries at Different Scales'. Tribologists were invited to present work in the various aspects of surfaces and interfaces, ranging from atomistic theories to practical engineering experiments.
The Centre was happy to support a group of cohort one students from both universities, who presented a poster on their ongoing mini-project work – fretting in artificial hip joints. The main aim of this project was to critique an ASTM standard for testing modular hip stems. This involved running long-term fretting-corrosion experiments at Leeds University to assess the worthiness of the standard in testing two different alloy components.
