Can you sum up what you do in one sentence?

I provide printing and on-site installations for both students and faculty.

You were nominated as an inspiration to others, how does it feel to be recognised?

This recognition is very unexpected, and as much as my role takes place behind the scenes it's encouraging to see my work is being noticed and appreciated.

What part of your work brings you the most pride or joy?

Paul Mather, my colleague and mentor, and I really care about the best job possible. Every installation is a little bit different. So we always take the time to think about what works best for that space and the result the customer wants.

A lot of the time, that involves looking closely at the materials that we use, and adapting our approach to suit each individual project. I take real pride in leaving a job looking its best and ensuring that the customer is happy with the end result.

Rick is operating at the top of his field. He creates high-quality, complex products that support innovative teaching and learning.

How does your work create an impact in research, innovation and education?

A big part of my work involves producing academic display material, helping people share, evaluate, and discuss ideas more effectively.

What is one thing about your workspace or role that would surprise people?

I think people would be surprised by just how varied our service is. Most people think of posters, but we print vinyl graphics, boards, large extended displays and installations.

Are there any upcoming projects or new technologies that you’re particularly excited to be working on?

There's a possibility that our department might be getting a CNC router table. A CNC router table is a computer-controlled cutting machine used for precision cutting, carving, and shaping hard materials. This would give us more capacity and capabilities and would go hand-in-hand with our flatbed printing.
