The Law Teacher of the Year award is the only national award to recognize and reward all-round law teaching excellence. To be shortlisted for this competitive award is testament to Kate's dedication and tremendous support for her students, with one of her students providing glowing feedback, "The organisation of workshops has been phenomenal – each workshop is clearly structured with clear questions to prepare beforehand, and the workshops themselves are very engaging".
Kate was nominated for this award by her Head of School and colleague, Professor Richard Kirkham, in recognition of her ability to 'facilitate student learning and self-reflection, providing clear statements of aims and objectives at the start and end of every teaching session'. Drawing upon her experiences as a practising solicitor, Kate brings 'practical examples to topics, enabling students to gain a deeper, more personal understanding, and demonstrate critical application'.
Kate’s teaching is influenced by 'constructive alignment theories' and is delivered with 'enthusiasm and academic rigour'. In 2017, she was nominated for the University of Sheffield’s Outstanding Teaching in the Student Union Academic Awards and received two nominations and a highly commended for the Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Learning and Teaching in 2022.
On hearing that she had been shortlisted for the award, Kate commented "I am honoured to have been nominated for doing something that I am so passionate about."
The winner of the Law Teacher of the Year Award 2024 will be announced in June. Good luck, Kate!
