Torti: Eggsploring Solutions for the Turtle Extinction Crisis: 16 June 2026
Celebrate World Sea Turtle Day with a FREE screening of the inspiring new nature documentary. Created by Seychelles-based cinematographer Stefano Colombo and PhD researcher Alessia Lavigne, this film highlights the urgent, global race to save these ancient creatures. From the beaches of the Seychelles to the labs at the University of Sheffield, follow Alessia’s journey as she teams up with Dr Nicola Hemmings to develop a groundbreaking new method for assessing turtle egg fertilisation.
Off the Shelf Festival of Words: October 2026
Off the Shelf Festival of Words is one of the largest literary festivals in the North of England, bringing the best in local, national and international literary talent to Sheffield. The Festival invites researchers to propose a talk, podcast or short film to be showcased in the festival. Programme to be announced in August 2026.
Understanding Society: October - November 2026
Understanding Society is part of the national Festival of Social Science coordinated by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). In Sheffield the festival is organised in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University. It celebrates social science research and examines how it influences our social, economic and political lives. Programme to be announced in September 2026.
Being Human Festival: 5 - 14 November 2026
Being Human is the UK’s only national festival of the humanities. A celebration of humanities research through public engagement, led by the School of Advanced Study at the University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. Programme to be announced in September 2026.
Festival of the Mind: 6 - 15 November 2026
Festival of the Mind sees the brightest minds from the University of Sheffield collaborate with the city’s cultural and creative industries, to help bring their research to life in exciting, entertaining and innovative ways, through a programme of free exhibitions, films, performances, workshops and talks.
