Guest Lecture: Steve Valdez-Symonds: Project for the Registration of Children as British Citizens
1 December 2025, 12-1pm,
LT2, the Wave

In a political climate where access to secure immigration status and citizenship is under direct attack, the need for children and young adults to secure their rights to British citizenship is more important than ever. The Project for the Registration of Children as British Citizens (PRCBC) is the first and only organisation to focus directly on children and young adults, offering pro bono advice, casework, and legal representation to help children and young adults secure their legal rights to citizenship. As well as working with individuals, PRCBC is active in making the case to government, parliament, and the courts about the importance of recognising the importance of citizenship for children and young adults.

Steve Valdez-Symonds is a volunteer caseworker and legal researcher with PRCBC, and is the Refugee and Migration Rights Programme Director at Amnesty International UK. Steve has co-written with the founder and CEO of PRCBC, Solange Valdez-Symonds, numerous academic articles, government consultation responses, and briefing papers for MPs on matters related to children's rights to citizenship. He is an active online commentator on immigration and refugee law and policy. During this guest lecture Steve will talk about the importance of citizenship to children and the work of PRCBC to secure this vital right.
