Transforming Publishing
Transformative publishing pushes for change in publications' business models, where open access charges are included in subscription fees that the research institution pays the publisher. Over a number of years, we hope to enable the shift from subscription-based reading to open access publishing.
Major Initiatives in Transformative Publishing
The Library supports several crucial transformative publishing initiatives. Supporting these initiatives is key to the ever evolving work taking place within higher education libraries across the UK, and how this ongoing work will impact future stakeholder use of academic information.
Transforming the Academic Publishing Infrastructure
Infrastructure is an important and necessary element of a federated and diverse publishing system, and the Library is committed to supporting useful and robust infrastructures which will enable the move towards open access publishing.
Transforming Monograph (Academic Book) Publishing
In the pursuit of open access to academic books, the Library is supporting new approaches to publishing. Often through a membership model, the Library agrees to fund publishers to make new titles published open access, enabling readership to be open to everyone.
Transforming Journal Publishing
Transformative journals are a form of open access publishing where a journal commits to transforming to becoming fully open access, and removing costly author-facing fees. The Library is proud to support initiatives towards fully open access journals.
Other Open Access Initiatives
The Library is proud to support other open access initiatives that provide access to open access support tools, metadata management and community run databases.
