The University of Sheffield and the University of Washington have launched a new collaboration to support innovative, global partnerships that lay the groundwork for major, long-term research initiatives and successful bids for external funding.
The Global Innovation Fund (GIF) will provide seed funding up to $20,000 per project to foster new, high-impact international research collaborations between the two institutions.
The GIF will leverage the complementary expertise of both institutions, enabling research activities and outputs at a scale and quality that would not be possible in isolation. Through creation of a sustainable partnership, the GIF will position teams to pursue large-scale international research funding, expanding the global reach and demonstrable excellence of both institutions' research.
By bringing the complementary strengths of Sheffield and Washington together, the GIF will support activities that blend research with partnership development. Supported activities include scoping and feasibility studies, essential travel and networking, researcher exchange visits, and specialised skills training.
Proposals are invited across all disciplines, with a strategic focus on areas critical to the future of society, including: AI, Manufacturing and Robotics, Quantum, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, and Ice and Climate.
The Global Innovation Fund is open to staff members at the University of Sheffield and the University of Washington holding research or equivalent roles.
