Participatory Research Network PGR Mentoring Scheme 2026
The PRN PGR mentoring scheme is an opportunity for PGRs at any level of study, interested in or doing participatory research, to be paired with another researcher from across the University with experience conducting participatory or co-produced research.
Overview
Following the success of last year’s Participatory Research Network (PRN) PGR Mentoring Scheme, we are delighted to open sign-ups for the 2026 programme.
This year's scheme will run from January – June 2026.
The scheme is open to University of Sheffield staff and PGRs only.
The deadline to apply is 5 January 2026.
What to expect
As a mentee, you'll have the opportunity to learn from someone further along the participatory research path; build solidarity and community; grow your confidence, skills, and knowledge; and connect with researchers who share your values.
As a mentor, you’ll gain valuable experience by nurturing a fellow academic’s growth and reflecting on your own participatory research knowledge, skills, and experiences. Mentoring is a reciprocal relationship. Whilst the focus is on nurturing your mentee, mentors have much to learn from their mentees.
It’s expected that you’ll meet with your mentor/mentee once every 4-6 weeks.
We’ll organise a check-in with you in March to see how you’re getting on.
Who can be a mentee/mentor?
Mentees can be PGRs at any stage of study interested in or doing participatory research.
Mentors can be any staff member or final-year PGR with some experience in co-production / participatory research.
Read our Guidance Booklet for Mentors and Mentees, which provides more information about what to expect from the scheme, what is expected of mentors and mentees, and how to get the most out of the mentoring relationship.
Complete the relevant Google form below to register your interest by Monday 5 January 2026.
We’ll use the information you provide in the form to match you with a mentor/mentee and will confirm your pairings by 19 January 2026.
PLEASE NOTE: While we will do our best to pair everyone, we cannot guarantee that all mentees will be matched with a mentor. We will make every effort to pair you where possible.

How we understand being ‘human’ differs between disciplines and has changed radically over time. We are living in an age marked by rapid growth in knowledge about the human body and brain, and new technologies with the potential to change them.
