Description
Disability Matters is a major six-year pan-national research programme funded by a Wellcome Trust Discretionary Award that will transform health research and environments through a paradigm shift to disability as the driving subject of inquiry.
Professor Anita Ghai was a foundational figure in Indian Critical Disability Studies and a dear friend and original driving Co-Investigator of Disability Matters. Her work has deeply shaped conversations about gender, identity, inclusion, power, culture, and activism. On 11th December, alongside a week-long dedicated series of tributes at Disability Dialogues, we are organising an online symposium centring Indian Disability Studies, its epistemology, theory, activism, and social engagement to honour Anita’s memory and legacy as we mark a year to Anita’s departure. We hope to create a living archive that celebrates and extends the work of Indian Disability Studies, inspired by Anita Ghai’s scholarship, activism, and imagination
iHuman
How we understand being ‘human’ differs between disciplines and has changed radically over time. We are living in an age marked by rapid growth in knowledge about the human body and brain, and new technologies with the potential to change them.
