Why did you choose to study at Sheffield?
There is a wide variety of course content and the department felt like a comfortable space. I also like Sheffield as a city.
Has your experience so far been what you expected?
I have enjoyed the course so far and it has surprised me in the way it made me question my own preconceived beliefs. It has also pushed me to be more confident in myself, which was definitely expected.
What do you particularly enjoy about your degree programme?
I really enjoy the range of topics available to be studied, especially in the choice for my second year. I also was appreciative of the gradual ways we adapted into university study through modules like Paths and History Workshop. The breakdown of ways to gain credit is something else that has helped me show my ability in a more balanced way, rather than just a piece of coursework or an exam.
What modules are you studying this year? Are there any modules that you have particularly enjoyed during your degree so far and why?
Paths from Antiquity to Modernity was a useful module not only in the way it was assessed, but also in its introduction into important historiographical trends and concepts of teleology which will be useful throughout my study. I have also enjoyed modules in my second Semester such as 'Disenchantment' of Early Modern Europe and The Making of the Twentieth Century.
