The University of Sheffield’s Digital Humanities Institute is delighted to announce that its two-day conference will be held in Sheffield on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd September 2026.

This will be a physical conference only.

The Digital Humanities Congress is a conference held in Sheffield every two years. Its purpose is to promote the sharing of knowledge, ideas and techniques within the digital humanities.

Digital humanities is understood by Sheffield to mean the use of technology within arts, heritage and humanities research as both a method of inquiry and a means of dissemination. 

The conference will take place at the University’s refurbished conference facility, The Edge.

Registration

Registration includes full attendance of the conference for two days, including all lunches and refreshments. Registration for partial attendance is not available.

Delegate rate: £199
Student rate: £155

The Student Rate is reserved for delegates who are currently registered on a degree programme at a higher education institution in the UK or elsewhere.

Accommodation is not included in the registration fee and should be booked separately. Please see below for recommendations.

Conference Dinner

The conference dinner will be held on Thursday 3rd September. This is an additional, optional cost of £45 which you select when booking your conference registration. The dinner will include vegan options.

Please note that if you do not select the conference dinner when booking your registration you will be unable to attend the dinner. We are unable to accept bookings during the conference.

Accommodation

The conference will be held at The Edge in Endcliffe Village, which is located here.

We recommend booking your stay early. A limited number of rooms are available on-site at Halifax Hall Hotel and can be added directly to your conference registration.

Nearby hotels include:

  • Jonas Hotel – A University hotel on the same site as the conference venue.
  • The Florentine – About 15 minutes walk from the conference venue. Also a very nice gastro pub.
  • Brocco on the Park – About 10 minutes walk from the conference venue. Located next to beautiful parkland and at the beginning of a road (A625 / Ecclesall Road) that has numerous pubs and restaurants.
  • The Rutland Hotel – About 15 minutes walk from the conference venue and 5 minutes walk from pubs and bars in the student area of Broomhill (A57 / Whitham Road).
  • Premier Inn (St Mary’s Gate) – At the end of a road (A625 / Ecclesall Road)that has numerous pubs and restaurants. About 30 minutes walk or a 10 minutes taxi ride to the conference venue. There is also an Ibis Budget next door.

Publication

All contributors will be invited to submit their paper for online open access publication by the Digital Humanities Institute.
