High Storrs School

On the 13th of February 2026 we had the chance to deliver a workshop at High Storrs School all about hearing research!

Off

Our setup included multiple interactive activities:

  • Katherine is demonstrating our noise cancelling headphones which simulate sudden hearing loss
  • On the right is our big hair cell, with moving stereocilia at the top to simulate the action of sound induction deflecting stereocilia
  • Alice is also holding up an informative poster, to help supplement our explanation of hearing loss
  • On the left is also an audiogram simulator

We were amongst other scientists from the Neuroscience Institute with their informative stands.

We had a lot of engagement with our stand...

...and received glowing reviews

It was wonderful for the students to be able to meet 'real life scientists' whose work was not only fascinating, but also cutting edge, up to date science and could all be related to practical uses in the real world.  I have no doubt that some of our students went away with a broader view of what 'research' might mean and how their future career pathways could look.

We feel very grateful for this opportunity to share our research with students who are eager to learn, giving them a taste of what life is like in a research career! We are excited for further possibilities of sharing our research as part of the Neuroscience Institute.
