Sally Faulkner

Sally is a PhD researcher at the University of Sheffield and a scholar at The Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures. Her PhD forms part of the interdisciplinary Acting Together Against Climate Change (ATACC) Network. Her research intends to examine the social changes in households and communities in the Peruvian Andes and Amazon as a result of the migration that occurs due to the pull of the mining industry. She is particularly interested in how miners have attempted to integrate into their new mining communities and how they maintain links with home. She is also hoping to understand how the illegal status of some miners impacts on these social relationships, and if and how these realities are reflected in local and national policy.

Sally completed her master’s in Violence, Conflict and Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies and her undergraduate degree in Economics and International Development at the University of Bath. Prior to starting her PhD she was working as an independent research consultant for Itad. Prior to this she had worked in Tanzania, Bangladesh and Vietnam on a variety of research projects, including maternal health, livelihoods and female empowerment.
