Alumna Revolutionises Healthtech Business Support

What is your business about?
fsub is a regulatory platform that helps early-stage spinouts bring healthtech (SaMD) and medical devices to market faster. We help teams with product classification, ISO documents, and AI-enabled automation to help teams through ISO and MDR requirements from day one.
What inspired you to start fsub?
The idea for fsub came out of our joint frustration in completing compliance documentation in our jobs. I was a Product Manager building and launching SaMD products across the UK, US, and Asia, and saw how much time and money startups wasted navigating compliance.
How did you build your team?
My Co-founder works in automotive, which is even more regulated, so we are building a tool we would use ourselves for a real world problem.
I wanted to start a side project to upskill myself on the AI boom, and so I contacted my old Hackathon team, who are all alumni of the University of Sheffield. We were flatmates and competed (and won!) together, looking back, that was my first taste of what it is like to build a product.
How did Sheffield support your career development?
I studied Bioengineering at the University of Sheffield, and I've worked in healthtech/biotech ever since. So what I learnt in Unversity definitely help with my career.
However, I think the most valuable skills I learnt come from all the extracurricular activities and the friends I made during my time here. Sheffield has a strong Students' Union and there are plenty of things to get involved in.
My personal mission is to bridge the gap between academic research and commercialisation (the Valley of Death for many healthtech startups), and disrupting the regulatory industry with fsub is part of it.
What are three tips for early-stage entrepreneurs?
- Find the right co-founder!
- There is no such thing as free money; know the terms that are attached or the effort that required for the funding, perhaps time might be better spent elsewhere.
- Launch before build.
