What is your current job and main responsibilities?

I currently work as a part-time online teacher while preparing for PhD applications and pursuing certifications in Teaching, such as TESOL.

How has your TESOL degree and your time at the University of Sheffield helped you in your career?

My TESOL degree has been valuable for both my teaching career and PhD applications, particularly in shaping my research direction. Before studying at Sheffield, I had no formal teaching experience. The degree not only provided me with a strong theoretical foundation but also offered practical teaching opportunities with students from diverse cultural backgrounds. These experiences helped me refine my teaching skills while allowing students to engage with different cultural perspectives. In terms of research direction, my master’s studies exposed me to various technology-enhanced teaching methods, such as flipped classrooms and online learning. These experiences sparked my interest in educational technology, giving me a clearer vision for my future studies.

What does your typical week look like?

I structure my time using a two-part planning routine: a weekly plan and daily plans. Every Sunday evening, I create a weekly plan by listing key tasks and assigning them to specific days. Each morning, I develop a daily schedule based on my weekly goals, allocating time to ensure I stay on track. Mornings are mainly dedicated to studying for certification courses and preparing for lessons. Recently, I have been spending my afternoons working on my research proposal. In the evenings, I occasionally teach classes.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

One of my greatest achievements is earning a distinction in my master’s degree.

What career advice would you give to a student interested in studying TESOL?

It’s important to reflect on your interests and career goals before you graduate. This will help you prepare effectively for your future career. For example, if you’re interested in a particular job, consider what qualifications and certifications are required. Preparing in advance can reduce anxiety and make the transition smoother.
